Dr. Julia Wood

Dr. Julia Wood is a board certified psychiatrist. She obtained her B.A. at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and her M.D. at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed residency at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital psychiatry residency program where she served as the Chief Resident of the outpatient clinic in her final year. Following residency Dr. Wood worked at McLean Hospital and also as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School before moving to Tennessee in 2012.

Dr. Wood specializes in treating mood and anxiety disorders during pregnancy and postpartum. She has expertise in using medication during pregnancy and lactation and is currently limiting new patients in her practice to people who are pregnant or postpartum.

Dr. Wood is a column editor for the Harvard Review of Psychiatry and a member of the Tennessee Chapter’s board of directors of Postpartum Support International. While not at work she enjoys running, hiking in the mountains, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Wood has extensive experience treating people with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders including post traumatic stress disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, substance use disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and schizophrenia. She treats adults across the lifespan and is committed to providing high quality, evidence based care.

Dr. Wood also has specialized experience working with women in the perinatal period, both in helping women determine the safest path regarding medication in pregnancy and in treating postpartum illness. Above all, she treasures her relationships with her patients and their families and regards this as one of the most important aspects of successful treatment.
